Total AV on multiple Macs

Let me first start by saying TotalAV seems to do a good job, I've never had a virus issue with any of the macs it is installed on, but on the desktop macs things could run smoother, for example TotalAV does not run happily in background when initially scanning... Instead, the mac seems unable to start the day with any program unless the TotalAV programme has completed its scan, which is a pain when you need to just get straight down to work.
